The concept is a straightforward one: use tugger AGVs to tow trailers of loaded pallets from receiving to storage, and from storage to sortation and shipping. But why choose an automatic guided vehicle system (AGVS) rather than a more traditional technology?
At Sears Logistics Services' new 750,000-sq-ft distribution center in Jacksonville, Florida, the reasons include flexibility in routing paths and expanding the system, a reduction in the number of trailers required, and the elimination of single-point failures that could shut down operations.
