Aug. 5--AUSTIN, Texas--The Texas Lottery Commission gave the go-ahead today to begin negotiations with the Mega Millions consortium, meaning that Texans could be able to buy tickets for a multistate lottery game by late October.
The unanimous decision by the three-member panel accelerates the push that began last spring when the Legislature gave its approval for Texas to join a multistate game as a way of pumping an estimated $101 million into the state's cash-strapped coffers over the next two years.
