When the McHenry County Fair opened 55 years ago, its aim was to give members of 4-H clubs in the predominantly rural area a place to show their livestock and crafts.
But when the fair closed the gates on its 2003 edition Sunday, it may have closed the door on its long relationship with the 4-H.
A brewing dispute between the McHenry County Fair Association and 4-H leaders over the location of next year's fair could lead club officials to drop out of the 2004 edition and hold their own countywide event if they don't get their way - a move some say could spell disaster for both sides.
