WHEN comedian Bob Hope died, at the ripe old age of 100, with his family beside him last week, he left a legacy unmatched in showbusiness or the military.
Adopting servicemen abroad as his personal audience, he was with the troops wherever they were, from the outbreak of World War II to the first Gulf War in 1990, when at 87, he took his show to Saudi Arabia. Hope never appeared alone he knew the troops needed more than his zingy one-liners, to provide a moments respite from the gory task at hand.
