THE irony of West Ham's decline and fall is not lost on those of us who remember the days of Hurst, Moore and Peters.
West Ham's reputation for producing outstanding players peaked when England won the World Cup in 1966 but, in recent years, the Upton Park academy has once again started developing youngsters good enough to play for their country.
Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Michael Carrick spring to mind.
