Major Chinese company Sinopec has approached Western Australian (WA) Premier Geoff Gallop about a potential gas supply deal. It is understood that the company contacted Gallop and Shanghai mayor Han Zheng, after the mayor flagged the possibility that WA gas could be used to resolve the city's energy problems. If a deal were to be reached, WA liquefied natural gas would be used to power the city's energy grid and that of China's east coast. Sinopec has agreed to send a delegation to WA by the end of August 2003 to discuss a potential deal with the WA Department of Industry & Resources. The company is also believed to be ...
