Satellite radio, facing financial death less than 18 months ago, is being embraced by customers and automakers like never before.
General Motors Corp. is expected to announce Thursday that it will build 500,000 vehicles equipped with XM Satellite Radio receivers by mid-August. The world's largest automaker expects to reach the 1 millionth satellite-equipped vehicle within six months.
GM has invested more than $100 million and owns an 11 percent stake in Washington, D.C.-based XM, which along with New York-based Sirius Satellite Radio provides service to more than 797,400 subscribers nationwide.
