SIR Charles Kerruish was the Ramsey Grammar School boy and prize- winning farmer who brought statesmanship and style to an island best-known for the roar of its annual TT motorcycle races and its quaint, tailless felines.
Sir Charles died on his 86th birthday in Noble's Hospital on the Isle of Man.
President of Tynwald and of the Legislative Council since 1990,he had been from 1962 until that year Speaker of the representative House of Keys.
Sir Charles was knighted in 1979,having been made an OBE in 1964. Norway awarded him the Order of Merit -for a long period the Isle and some Scottish islands had been nominally under Norwegian kings.
