COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- A new research study indicating a better survival rate for chronic kidney disease patients treated with a specific type of Vitamin D preparation has prompted Palmetto GBA to reimburse Medicare providers the full reimbursement amount available under the Medicare benefit.

Prior to this change, Palmetto GBA reimbursed equally for two Vitamin D preparations commonly used to treat chronic kidney disease. The policy change is effective immediately, according to Dr. Harry Feliciano, director of medical affairs for Medicare Part A at Palmetto GBA.
