WOMEN on hormone replacement therapy run a far higher risk of breast cancer, a study has revealed.
Combined oestrogen- progestagen HRT relieves the misery of the menopause in the short term - but could leave a deadly legacy.
It doubles the risk of breast cancer, according to the study of a million women - the largest ever done on breast cancer.
Researchers believe 20,000 extra cases of breast cancer were caused by HRT in the UK in the last decade. And it causes nearly 200 extra cases every year in Scotland.
