SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. & MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 2003--Genentech, Inc. (NYSE:DNA) and OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSIP) announced today that the first patient has been enrolled in a multi-center, open-label, Phase II clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of Tarceva(TM) (erlotinib HCl), in patients with malignant glioma (brain cancer). Tarceva is designed to block tumor cell growth by inhibiting the tyrosine kinase activity of the HER1/EGFR signaling pathway inside the cell.
