The sporty, maneuverable kayak may be riding a wave of paddling popularity, but if chunkier, clunkier canoes are being left in the sleeker boat's wake, you couldn't tell by their continued popularity with families.
"We are seeing more families in canoes than we probably have in the past five years," said Shirley Rowan ofhe South Bridge Boathouse in Concord.
At Charles River Canoe and Kayak in Newton, Mark Jacobson said the canoe has been ideal for him, his wife and two children, ages 7 and 18 months.
