Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker Brewers had both of his knees successfully replaced Monday to relieve severe arthritis.
The Brewers said Uecker, inducted into the Hall of Fame last month, was alert for much of the two-hour procedure, and kept a running dialogue with the staff in the operating room.
Uecker, 69, will begin a rehabilitation program immediately, but will miss some games. Jim Powell will handle all of the play-by-play duties on the club's radio broadcasts while Uecker recuperates.
* The Brewers purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Doug Davis from Class AAA Indianapolis.
