Last summer vacation was devoted to whitening my teeth. Surely Crest white strips bleached 20 years off my canines.
The summer before I mastered fake tanning, slathering on Neutrogena, $10.99, without becoming an orange Oompaloompa from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Truly it's an art form to fake a tan and create no ugly blotches on the rough skin of ankles and knees.
But this summer? Tragically, my annual project has not gone well. As of today it's mildew, 10; me, 0. Yesterday, in my Cape Cod Mildew Palace, I actually saw the stuff growing up a painted door like Chia, like a spider web or fiendish snowflake extending ...
