LA CROSSE -- The ragweed season officially started Friday.

Diminishing daylight stimulates the ragweed plant to pollinate, and for the next month allergy sufferers will be sneezing and walking around with stuffy, itchy noses, red and swollen eyes, and scratchy throats if they don't seek treatment.

George Fulford, a physician assistant with Allergy Associates of La Crosse who has kept track of ragweed and mold counts for many years, said the dry weather won't reduce the amount of ragweed.
