Aug. 17--South Florida residents who use natural gas to cook food, heat water or wash clothes face a 13.4 percent rate increase this fall, amounting to $4.22 more a month for the average household.
The Hialeah-based City Gas Company of Florida filed a re...uest for the rate hike with the Florida Public Service Commission on Friday. If approved, the increase would be the first for the company's natural-gas consumers in two years.
The move would affect about 100,000 homes across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Brevard, St. Lucie and Indian River counties.
