WASHINGTON _ Mike Duggan, who helped establish Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service and oversaw its development into one of the nation's leading news wire services, died Friday of a heart attack at his home in Fairfax, Va., a Washington suburb. He was 56.
Duggan, a Detroit native, was graduated from DeLasalle High School in 1964. He joined the Army and served three tours of duty in Vietnam in the late 1960s. He was graduated from Wayne State University in 1971.
Duggan began his journalism career nearly 40 years ago as a copy boy at the Detroit Free Press and later became a copy editor there. He was one of the first editors hired when Knight Newspapers ...
