2003 AUG 22 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. patent no. 6,583,275 to Genome Therapeutics (GENE) relating to the pathogen Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium).
The most common species of enterococcus that develops resistance to antibiotics such as vancomycin, E. faecium can cause deadly bloodstream infections in hospitalized patients. The patent relates to key genetic sequences that have the potential to aid in the identification and treatment of bacterial infections caused by E. faecium.
