Aug. 17--Cordova will get a deep-draft port again, which will help local fishermen send their harvest to market and allow large cruise ships to dock.
The 1964 earth...uake raised the sea bottom on the approaches through Orca Inlet to Cordova's harbor by eight to 10 feet, eliminating access to the community by deep-draft vessels.
The community has been working for years on developing a new port, and now it is finally moving forward.
