CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Neither high winds nor the imminent danger of Hurricane Claudette could keep Martha Gomez of Corpus Christi, Texas from being honored as the National Substitute Teacher of the Year for the 2002-2003 school year by Kelly Educational Staffing (KES). She is the first Texan to receive this national award.

Gomez was honored for her work in the classroom during a surprise presentation at the Tuloso-Midway Intermediate School District (ISD) board meeting this past July, the day before Hurricane Claudette was expected to roar into Corpus Christi.
