U.N. Committee Delays Decision On Iraq Oil Sale

WASHINGTON -- The Security Council's sanctions committee took no action Tuesday on an Iraqi request to be allowed to sell oil Iraq claims will pay for emergency supplies, including food and civilian items, needed to cover short-term needs.

The next meeting of the sanctions committee is scheduled on Friday.

Committee members told members of the press that the 15-member sanctions committee had dealt with two other agenda items not related to Iraq's emergency request and did not have time to reach the emergency requests on the agenda.
