THE ENGLISH WRITERS IN ISRAEL, LONG ISOLATED AND alienated from the creators of the flourishing Hebrew literature and developing Hebrew culture, responded to this situation in the past in one of five ways: They transferred to Hebrew (Reuven Ben Yoseph, Harold Schimmel), they fell silent (Richard Flantz), changed or added medias (Elazar, Reva Sharon), left the country (Barbara Rogan, Ed Codish). Many simply continued to write, ignoring or bemoaning their situation.
