Article: U.S. hopes to lure back wheat buyers.(Brief Article)

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A team of high-ranking Egyptian wheat industry representatives began a U.S. tour last week on what U.S. Wheat Associates (USWA) hopes will result in renewed sales to an important export market. In the past two years, the U.S. and other traditional wheat exporting nations have lost sales to Egypt because of strong price competition from wheat grown in the Black Sea region, India and Pakistan.

However, a main Egyptian government buyer from the state-owned wheat importing agency was unable to make the trip last week because the U.S. Department of State denied his visa. That Egyptian government agency imports up to 4 million metric tons per year.
