Wounded movie studios may be takeover targets
Orion, MGM-Pathe too dependent on future proceeds
These are troubled times for both Orion Pictures and MGM-Pathe Communications Co. Both companies are relying on revenues from future films to fuel the companies and both have mortgaged assets for more cash.
Both MGM-Pathe and Orion have sold many assets and, in MGM-Pathe's case, mortgaged the rights to film libraries. The primary source of revenue for both companies are receipts from future films, said Paul Marsh, an entertainment analyst with Los Angeles-based Kemper Securities, a brokerage firm.
