Budapest. August 21. INTERFAX-EUROPE - ERA OF WELFARE STATE IS OVER, SAYS MEDGYESSY. Speaking on the economy in his August 19 speech prior to the August 20 national holiday, prime minister Peter Medgyessy declared that the time of the traditional welfare state is over. A well-oiled state machinery is need, where taxpayers' money is handled thriftily and well, he added.
