CHEMICAL ALI, one of Iraq's most hated and feared figures, was captured today by American forces.
US Army officials said Ali, real name Ali Hassan al-Majid, was "taken into custody" although they refused to go into details. Chemical Ali, the man who masterminded Iraq's chemical warfare programme, is a first cousin of Saddam Hussein.
He is number five on the list of Iraq's 55 "most wanted" of Saddam's acolytes and fugitive members of his government. Only 15 on the wanted list are still at large. Majid, 62, was considered one of the two or three men closest to Saddam and had at one time been in charge of the feared Mukhabarat ...
