Women's rights activist Gene Boyer died Tuesday at her Madison home at age 78.

A founding member of the National Organization for Women, Boyer also founded the Wisconsin Women's Network, Women Business Owners of Wisconsin and the Jewish Women's Coalition.

"She was such a pioneer," said Mona Steele, Wisconsin Women's Network chairwoman. "She founded so many organizations and she was so incredibly organized and perceptive about the needs of women and these organizations."
