2003 AUG 31 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The incidence of different types of congenital cardiac defects in cleft patients has been determined.
In a recent study from Brazil, "to establish the prevalence of congenital heart diseases (CHDs) in cleft patients, the type of cleft and the presence of a syndrome were coded in 220 patients."
"A Doppler echocardiogram with color-flow mapping (DE) was obtained in all patients," noted M.M. Barbosa and coauthors at Hospital Vera Cruz in Belo Horizonte. The "mean age was 112.0[+ or -]101.2 months (range, 1-576 months), and 56.8% (125) were males."
