A night out in my home town of Liverpool when I was a 17-year-old secretarial student changed my life. My college friend Pauline had suggested we go to a club called the Iron Door to hear her boyfriend, George Harrison, play in a band called The Beatles.
The year was 1961 and I was desperate to be a singer myself, so as each set ended Pauline, who had the cheek of the devil, called out to the band to 'give Cilla a go'.
