Aug. 25--Breaking into the snack-foods industry can be a tough nut, but Diamond of California thinks it may have just the right hammer.
The grower-owned cooperative reports triple-digit annual growth in its line of sweet glazed nuts, launched nationwide in 2001, and earlier this year invested $2 million to install a new glazed production facility at its main Stockton processing plant.
There a crew of eight to 10 workers labors 10 hours a day to produce glazed walnuts and pecans that later get packed into shiny purple-foil pouches. And plans call for a second ...
