The three dimensional solubility parameter system has been applied in the analysis of the behavior of selfstratifying coatings. For a system consisting of two phases in equilibrium, the Gibbs free energy of mixing must be at the minimum value at constant temperature and pressure, or the chemical potential of each component must be equal in both phases.
