Michael Clarke is a stem-cell biologist and cancer researcher at the University of Michigan whose recently announced discovery about breast-cancer tumors could change the way doctors treat cancer and is a promising lead for a cure.
In 1996, Clarke was looking at a pathology slide when he realized that a cancerous tumor is basically an abnormal organ and therefore should have a hierarchy of cells like any other organ.
