Sex education for people with learning disabilities is still taboo, judging by the reactions Stacey Atkinson has encountered. 'One male relative of a client threatened me with violence,' recalls the specialist nurse, who has won this year's Nursing Standard Learning Disability Nursing award.
'People with learning disabilities are treated as eternal children,' Ms Atkinson says. 'Having a sexuality does not equate with that.'
