BADGERS are dying of starvation after the hot summer killed off their staple diet.
The best weather for years has meant earthworms have been scarce, leaving hundreds of badgers struggling to find food.
Animal charities became alarmed after people complained that badgers were foraging in their gardens - where they had rarely been seen before.
When others were killed on busy roads, wildlife experts noticed they were in very poor condition, thin and bony.
Now the Scottish Badgers charity has appealed to animal lovers for help.
