OLIVE OIL is savoring its increased popularity in the US household pourable oil market as consumption is expected to increase, allowing olive oil to slip past other cooking oils such as vegetable (soybean), corn and canola. Olive oil's share in the household market increased to an all-time high of around 34 percent in 2002, compared to 26 percent five years ago. The oil is benefiting from changing eating habits in the US and consumer interest in its health benefits and versatility.
