2003 SEP 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Alpha 3 beta 1-integrin regulates hair follicle but not interfollicular morphogenesis in the adult epidermis, according to a report in a recent issue of the Journal of Cell Science.
"Alpha-3-beta-1-integrin is abundantly expressed in the epidermis, and in mice, ablation of the alpha-3 gene results in embryonic defects and perinatal lethality. To determine the role of alpha-3-integrin in adult skin development, we grafted skin from newborn alpha-3-integrin-deficient mice on to ICRF nu/nu recipients," researchers in England report.
"We report that adult alpha-3-integrin-deficient skin has severe abnormalities ...
