Toronto's CHUM Ltd. is going head-to-head with Winnipeg-based CanWest over broadcasting in Alberta.
CHUM wants to bring its cityTV "store-front" concept to Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, and has committed to investing more than C$300 million to launch, staff and program the two conventional TV services and Red Deer transmitter over the seven-year license term.
CanWest, meanwhile, is looking to launch its third Alberta station by taking control of CBC affiliate CKRD, a conventional Red Deer service that reaches Edmonton and Calgary. ...
