TONY BLAIR is to order a clearout of his Downing Street team in a bid to restore the reputation of his battered Government.
The Prime Minister has told colleagues he wants a new set of senior advisers to enable him to make a 'clean break' with the damage caused by the David Kelly scandal.
Alastair Campbell's dramatic departure from No 10 is likely to be only the first of several in the next few weeks. Senior Labour sources say other key figures implicated in the Kelly affair, chief of staff Jonathan Powell and Press spokesman Tom Kelly, who called the dead Ministry of Defence scientist a 'Walter Mitty', will also go.
