QUANTICO, Va.--Operation Iraqi Freedom helped to validate Marine Corps warfighting concepts based on the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) model, according to service generals who served in the theater.
"Every commander out there was envious of the concept of the MAGTF," Lt. Gen. James Conway, commander of I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), said during a seminar hosted by the Marine Corps Association Tuesday. The MEF was able to deploy "big flexible battalions" for the fight, Conway added.
