Software is power startup's secret sauce.(Focus On: Power)

As the sheer amount of bandwidth running across public networks increases, so do power requirements. But at the same time, the amount of real estate available, particularly in remote terminals, has become more and more precious. That means that delivering more power in a smaller footprint has become the Holy Grail of power system suppliers.

Valere Power, a startup company 30% owned by Alcatel Ventures, has a new take on how to accomplish this. "What we've done is put software into power," says Valere CEO Andy Marsh.
