At press time, the House and Senate were wrangling over the politically charged future of Medicare and drug costs for seniors. Mindful of the fact that seniors actually vote--oftentimes on solitary issues that affect them personally-lawmakers were straggling to either find a solution, or find cover for their views.
In the meantime, the toughening economic times and approaching 2004 presidential campaign have combined to energize forces on both sides of almost any issue facing healthcare and the hospital industry. Awareness is rising, and so are temperatures from coast to coast.
