Changes in business practices, increased globalization, technological advances, and increased demands by upper management are forcing concomitant changes in the purchasing/supply management function. Such changes stress the importance of the purchasing function, thus increasing its role within the organizations and pointing out the need both to reinforce the methodoligical bases and to increase its contribution to practice. In the near future, the whole concept of "buyer" is going under challenge by management.
