Over the past decade, the defensive character of the RF Military Doctrine put defense in the domestic military art to the foreground. Operationally, however, defense cannot prevail over the offense. World history does not know of a single war wherein any of the warring sides was able to achieve victory through defense alone. This mode of warfare in the military art should be given a place corresponding to its role and significance, on the assumption that the main objective of defense is to repulse the strike by a superior enemy force, hold important areas and positions, and thus create conditions for an offensive operation.
