Economic forecasting has long been regarded as a two-handed science--"On one hand ... On the other hand ..." Analysts certainly had both hands busy in the middle of 2003 trying to project the outlook for major stock indexes this year.
Individually, analysts fall into one of two main camps:
* The spring advance was just a bear market rally in a bigger, ongoing bear market that will resume at any time.
