Insect repellent is flying off store shelves because of West Nile virus fears, and many shoppers instinctively reach for the product with the highest concentration of DEET.
If a repellent with 50 percent DEET protects a person against blood-thirsty mosquitoes, then a product containing 95 percent DEET provides nearly double the protection, right?
Wrong, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
