In 2000, Acme Foundry was looking to improve the flexibility of its high production matchplate molding line, allowing for more capabilities while simultaneously keeping its costs low. "Our existing matchplate molding line had been installed in 1970, and we were looking for something that yielded a lot more options, such as variable mold height," said Mike Northup, Acme's foundry manager.
In a bold move, the gray iron foundry decided to replace its two existing matchplate machines, and add a third. Unfortunately, this investment meant that the plant had to be shut down for a period of three weeks. During ...
