The high-volume car market will take center stage at the Frankfurt International Motor Show next week.
Volkswagen will show the redesigned Golf, its best seller. The Mazda3 and new versions of the Opel Astra and the Volvo S40 also will be unveiled.
Smart will introduce its second vehicle line, called the ForFour. Jaguar will unveil its first station wagon.
Speaking of wagons, the Chrysler brand will use Frankfurt rather than Detroit to introduce a big V-8-powered wagon.
Other world debuts include the BMW X3 sport wagon and the large 6-series coupe, along with the replacement for the Aston Martin DB7.
