TOKYO, Sept 4 Asia Pulse - Nagase & Co.(TSE:8012) plans to develop a system to mass-produce chiral unnatural amino acids and begin around 2005 a business selling them to pharmaceutical firms for use as drug intermediates.

The amino acids are the chiral twins of the amino acids synthesized by organisms in the natural world. They have the same organizations as their natural analogs, but left and right are reversed in their structures, making them exhibit different chemical properties that make them useful as intermediates in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
