Not moving fast enough: Big managers missing out on hedge fund assets.(News)

The biggest institutional money managers are losing out big time when it comes to getting their mitts on their clients' ballooning hedge fund allocations.

According to Pensions & Investment's survey of the 15 biggest asset managers, ranked by worldwide institutional assets, only 13 offer hedge funds and fund of funds, and those firms managed just $44.7 billion as of July 31 for all categories of investors. Only nine of the world's largest institutional managers could or would disclose how much they manage on behalf of institutional clients in hedge fund and fund-of-fund assets; the total was just $18.5 billion.
