Q: When I had a new roof installed, the roofers lined up the shingles with the edge of the metal drip edge instead of overlapping the drip edge by one-quarter inch in the standard fashion. As a result, even with gutters, water is running down the fascia, making ugly streaks, and I know this will result in decay sooner rather than later. What can I do to make it right?
A: Don't blame the roofers. The drip edge itself is too close to the fascia. The solution is to have a drip-edge extender installed over the drip edge and under the shingles, effectively extending the drip edge so water drips harmlessly away from the fascia into ...
